Does anyone have ideas for new Scattergories categories?

One of my best friends loves the game and we play it all the time, so i’m trying to make a new set of cards for her birthday.

i have a lot of the generic categories, but i’m looking for things that are funny or original, things that are inappropriate are okay(within reason)

for those who haven’t played, categories are like this:
foods
cartoon characters
things that are sticky
emotions
etc.

Harry Potter Scattergories categories?

I’m trying to come up with some categories for a Harry Potter themed Scattergories! (If you don’t know what it is, it’s the game where you have 10 categories (for example, “things that make noise” or “vegetables”) and you roll a die with letters on it. Whatever letter comes up has to begin the word that fits the category. So, say the letter is “c” and the category is “vegetables”, an answer would be “carrot”.) I already have: teachers, students, spells, places, animals, Muggles, potions, and school subjects.

Having about 20 or so guests, Want to go simple with food options but want to make sure they get enough to eat. Was thinking Fresh Fruit, Finger Foods. But I don`t know what. Any Suggestions would help Thanks!!!!!!

Baby Shower Menu, What Should Be Served At 2 pm?

My mom and my mother-in-law are going to make me a baby shower in July. It’s going to be at 2 pm, which is right after lunch. I was wondering what kind of menu should they have for the guest. I mean they want to make a brisket and other side foods for it, but the shower is after lunch and I’m sure most of the gust would have eaten by then. And I’m sure I’m not going to wait till then to have lunch. So what kind of food would anyone recommend to have at a shower thats at 2 pm?

Does a single person have to get a gift for weddings?

I feel like there’s discrimination and a double standard towards single people. Even though I bought a house just like newly married people do, I work hard and make my bills, nobody has purchased any kitchen appliance or ANYTHING for me, yet time after time I get invited to weddings where a couple has a DOUBLE income yet I’m expected to get them a coffee maker or fine china or nice flatware or crystal vases or designer towels – things I don’t have and nobody ever purchased for me. Just because I want to be present on a special occasion – their union – does it mean I have to take them a pricey gift too? At several weddings, bridal showers, engagement parties a year – it adds up to hundreds of dollars, not to mention should they have children then the baby showers, birthdays and all that. Shouldn’t the invites say “gift optional”?

I ended up not going to 3 of my close first cousins weddings and just sent a cannot make it to my 4th cousin’s wedding because I’m not a cash cow. Just because they fork out expenses for a wedding doesn’t mean I can afford to fork out on a new dress, present from their gift registry etc. I think it’s tacky frankly to not make gift giving optional. Thoughts?
If I threw a dinner party I wouldn’t register at a gourmet food store with $10/pound cheese and $100 wines on my wish list like tacky couples getting married do for their registries at upscale department stores.
And the last wedding i went to a couple of months ago, you had to PAY for the alcohol – after asking the bartender to make me a martini he charged $15!!! I was like TACK-Y. I think I”m threw with weddings.
House warming parties are the same type or tackiness – people want to get presents so my point is I don’t want to give presents just to share on someone’s occasion and likewise I’ve bought 4 homes in the past 15 years – not one present, so I’m not about to be as tacky as they are by throwing a “housewarming” i.e. gift hording party. I’ve given in to pressure to attend these tacky events all my life and it’s time I say NO and I’m not going to let my family make me feel guilty for not having gone to my cousins weddings.
singlemom – the invite didn’t say the bar would charge for the drinks – i didn’t know until after the bartender made mine and asked for $15 and I had already brought a present. And no thanks I’m not a sheep herd to want to get married like a controlled person who needs a certificate from the government to validate their love and an excuse to get presents.

How do mothers make it? I no this is long but please read it I really need help?

This is really crazy last week everything was normal in my marriage and on Saturday my mother called my husband and told him that he is planning me a shower. Then his mother called him and told himshe is planning a shower. They mothers spoke to each other and was not able to come to a compromise so they decided to do their own showers. When my mother find out about my husbands mothers shower she got offended. She feels like it is the mother of the womens job and my mother in law is taking the shower and the plans away from her. My mother is not budging and being very stubborn and my mother in law is willing to compromise. Since my husband is in the middle and they both want to surprise me I told him that since they think I don’t know I will have my own shower to avoid any drama. He then got pissed and felt like I was adding on. It turned into a huge argument. The next day I called my mother and she cursed me out she told me how hurt she was and I taking this away from her. My husband was home I spoke to her and he kept telling me to hang up but I was trying to get to a conclusion with her. Then I got off the phone and tried to talk to my husband and he told me that he is not speaking to me because I don’t listen to him. I tried to explain that I called my mother and she started yelling. H then said good for you, you got what you deserved you should of stayed out of it. The comment really hurt my feelings and I told him that and he said be hurt then. I couldn’t believe he was being so mean. It’s like I didn’t even know who he was. I asked why was he speaking to me like that and he said you all are crazy and I have nothing to do with this. I told him I was going out and he really got mad. I put my coat on and he screamed go ahead run away that is what you do {huh} and took the washing machine and threw it against the wall. I left then he locked the door but I forgot my keys so I had to go around the back and I was so mad I took my vase and threw it and said do you like when people throw things he then told me to get the F**K out I took my pocketbook and hit him with it till it fell apart. I Left and stayed in a hotel that night. The next day we did not speak so I called him and apologized for throwing the vase then explained the situation and he said nothing but ok bye. I spilled my guts and all he said is that it ok goodbye. I can’t believe this. I have been married for 2 ½ years and I never thought he would act like this. I might have to raise this baby alone and it all happened so fast I don’t know what to do. Does anyone have advice? I never expected to be a single mother how do you handle it or if your strong enough?

Baby Shower Memory Game?

I am throwing a baby shower next weekend and plan on playing the memory tray game with a twist. Where the mom-to-be walks the tray around and then leaves the room as if to use the restroom. People then have to write down as many things they can think of that she was wearing (they were concentrating on the tray, not the mom-to-be).

I need help thinking of things she should wear. So far I have: shirt, pants, necklace, bracelet, slippers, corsage and a hair tie. I need some more things though. I also thought of giving one point for the item and another for the color. The person with the most points wins.

What did you do for your baby’s first birthday party?

I was going to go above and beyond and make a 3 teir fondant cake and do a rainbow theme but instead I’m having to opt for the typical “1″ theme from party galaxy due to a flu last week. She’s one today! And I’m having her birthday party tomorrow. I’m getting all the stuff they have– high chair decor, party hats, cups, plates, napkins, table cloth, centerpiece, streamers, the whole 9. And I’m getting her an airbrushed shirt made at the mall thats gonna say “i’m 1 today! can I have cake now?” and then one with her name. I’m buying her some baby jewelry for keepsakes and toys of course and anything she screeches for in toys r us… that’s gonna cost a pretty penny. I’m going to catch the whole thing on camera and bring her flute to see if she’ll play it for everyone. She l-o-v-e-s attention. So what’d you do for yours?
