what is the little bird that has the baby in its beak called? The one that is used for baby showers?
admin answers:
It’s not little and it’s called a stork, rather like a pelican but with a leaner body

Donald asks…
Is this a good idea for a second baby shower?
Ok, my husband is driving me crazy insisting that HE is going to throw me a baby shower for the second baby. I’ve tried to explain that you don’t need a baby shower and he doesn’t need to throw it but he just won’t listen. He’s a chef and likes to show off his culinary ability so he keeps going over the menu he’s going to make… When I had my daughter a friend of ours (also a chef) decided to do the baby shower with my husband and they spent like $600 but it was a really great party and all the guests enjoyed the food and took a lot home.
Well anyway, I don’t want a baby shower! It seems greedy. So what I thought of is that the baby will be born in the beginning August and the end of August is my mom’s 60th birthday, so we could have a party at the end of August (the baby will be almost a month old) for people to come see the baby and for my family that knows my mom to also celebrate her birthday. We’ll kill two birds with one stone and my mom has been hinting for a while that she wants a party… lol…
But then my other thought was that my daughter’s 2nd birthday is like 2 weeks after my mom’s birthday and I don’t want to fork out another $600 bucks or so for him to throw another huge party. So what if we waited and had a double birthday party for my mom and daughter, and of course everyone could come see the new baby? Then if the party is for my daughter and mom instead of a baby shower, people won’t bring the new baby gifts (which is good because I don’t need or want anything!). So we’ll just have one huge party. Does that sound good?

I like the idea of a big party to celebrate everything….
And if people insist on giving gifts, you can always donate some of your older things to a shelter or to an organization that helps mothers with children in need.
There are two really great things happening. The first is that you are not greedy, and don’t want to seem as if you are just asking for gifts, that’s a sign that a person is not selfish. The second is that your husband is so excited and wants to share his happiness with others. It sounds as if you have a lovely family.

Sandra asks…
What do people do at bridal showers and how long do they usually last?
I’m not an overly excited type of woman. I do not enjoy the company of excited women, they remind me of chattering birds. The last shower I went to was a baby shower and it was just dreadful and the girl couldn’t stop showing her stretched out baby belly. Yuck and then the games and gossip? Oh, it was frightening!
I usually make up an excuse why I won’t be attending a shower or simply say, “Like hell you’ll see me there.” I haven’t attended a wedding shower in my adult life and never planned too…
But this time it’s my turn. I’m getting married and of course I can’t skip my own shower or tell them I don’t want one. It’s too rude when your life is the main attraction, mothers and aunts live for this kind of crap, so as the bride at a wedding shower, what exactly am I going to have to put up with and for how long?
I know they usually have gifts at this kind of thing, so I have to practice my “oh wow kitchen stuff!” gratitude, gah…
admin answers:
My goodness, what the heck are you going to do at your wedding reception?
If you don’t want a bridal shower then make it known so you don’t have to be a “phony” at your own bridal shower. You will be saving the guests a lot of money and time in not having a bridal shower.
There also may be a “batchlorette ” party planned for you too! If you are not interested in that either, then tell your bridesmaids etc. So they don’t have to spend the money to plan this party either.

Betty asks…
How can I get my 4 month old African Grey to enjoy a shower? I’ve tried Sally Blanchard’s ideas?
but she screams like she’s being murdered and tries to fly away. This morning she bit her tongue and it bled a little. I don’t want to traumitize her so I haven’t been as regular about it as I should. She never had a shower or bath before coming home 3 weeks ago. Also, for breakfast, all she wants is either eggs or cold cereal (a mix of granola, flax flakes and cheerios) is this an okay breakfast? For supper she eats a veggie mix and a little baby food like pasta and sauce. At night she will only eat if spoon fed. She’s so cute, she puts herself to bed at 6:00pm in her sleeping cage. I plan on having her forever and want her to be the best bird she can be. Also a note to Pheonix, thanks so much for the link to N’Kisi, what a smarty. Your knowledge is of great value to me.
When I said shower, I meant with a spray bottle set on mist.
admin answers:
My Greys HATE, despise, loathe the spray bottle. Total repulsion. Did explain that well enough? Ha!
But they LOVE the shower in the bathroom tub.
Try this Professor: In your tub, turn on the shower on medium cool to tepid water. Pick up “Baby Grey”, and step into it with the bird on a step up, but holding her close to your chest and cupping your back with her other hand. Make sure the spray isn’t really strong…just a nice easy spray.
Eventually, you can ease her into going into the shower on the floor on her own with you sitting beside it supervising. She’ll be fine as long as you keep your hand near her while she’s showering to reassure her.
As it is now, all 3 of mine go in together and all sort of go into this “coma” of relaxation. Parker grunts at me and refuses to come out if he’s not ready. I can stretch his wings out and rub his tummy feathers to work the water in all the way down to his skin.
I don’t much care for shower perches. One slip and the parrot ends up tail over teakettle onto the shower stall or bathtub floor and a possible serious injury. They are much safer on the floor of the tub with nowhere to fall.
Regarding food: Easy on the Cheerios. They have more sugar and salt in them than you can imagine. Not real good for them. Eggs a couple of times a week is fine, but you are going to have to put your little sneaker down on the “pickiness”.
Veggies, veggies, veggies! Mix the veggies in (finely chopped) into the granola. Ease off on the granola and starrt adding rice or quinoa gradually. Remember that you can cook a batch of rice and then freeze it so you aren’t cooking flippin’ rice every morning. Start doing a mix up on what she is eating by introducing new stuff. And how old is “Baby Grey” now? 4 months? Time to learn to eat on her own or you’ll be spoon-feeding her forever. Start by removing the spoon from the situation and using your fingers. When she’s doing that, show her the food and then put it down on the table so she has to pick it up with her beak in order to eat. Move on to showing the food with your fingers and placing it back into the bowl. She’ll catch on!
If you need more information, don’t hesitate to email me. You know I’ll be glad to help out. I have tons of video website addresses, and papers available. The “Favorites” on my computer is a Parrot Companion’s dream! I also know of some training classes offered by amazing people in the industry you might want to think about signing up for.
Oh…one more thing. Be sure and take a ton of photos right now, because once she becomes an adult, she’ll look the same forever. This is SUCH a fun time with a bird!
I’ll bet you’re having a blast! And I’ll bet you’re starting to understand the “Bonding Thing” too.
Good Luck.

Thomas asks…
Is it bad to piss in the shower!?
I do it all the time, but my mom says it kills baby birds. Is this true? Also I would like to know if I can still piss in the sink.
admin answers:
While maybe not the most sanitary thing to do, but those birds tend to wake me up too early anyways, so pee on them.
Wait till you get older and start going to parties, you will then notice people will pee just about anywhere including the sink.
